Description of initiative
“Museotherapy” is an annual conference held by a group of scientists and practitioners on the sociotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic working methods applied in museums. During the two-day meeting, they are examining the relations and the impact of educational programs on beneficiaries and employees from various cultural heritage institutions.
Museotherapy implies also a set of educational activities, working in groups (schools and individual people) characterized by stress, lack of wellbeing, cancer, emotional issues. The aim is to make a difference in people's life and show that museums can be a "safe space" where everyone can feel good, breaking thinking patterns and see other perspectives.

Since 2018, over 400 participants have participated in the Muzeoterapia conference (held every year, except for 2020). Since 2022, around 2400 people (children, adolescents and adults) participated in the classes. The classes improved the emotional expression among children and adolescents and improved communication in the group. "Mindfulness" exercises improved concentration among the youngest participants. The classes for adults improved the mental condition of the participants and allowed them to create new relationships in their lives. For the participants, the museum began to be a place that not only collects collections, but also an institution where important social issues are discussed.
