Results, benefits, impact and lessons learnt

The data collection effort provided comparable information on the spread of collective singing in 21 countries, showing an increase from 2,3% to 11% of national populations involved in collective singing. Based on statistical analysis, it was shown that the programme was able to provide a European average of 4,5% of the population involved in collective singing. This correspond to 22,5 Million singers in the European Union (EU28) and 37 Million for the whole European continent, including Russia. These results provide a totally new outlook on the importance of choral singing in Europe. Based on the figures gathered in national statistics and through the online questionnaire, the project reached an approximation of 625.000 Choirs or Ensembles in EU28 and 1 Million Choirs or Ensembles on the European continent and an average size of 36 singers per ensemble.
